Lead vocalist Christpher Quinn and guitarist Andrew "Andj"
Stainer decided that there was too much great new-wave, punk and alternative 80s
music that wasn't being performed live - that needed to be. Thus began The
Treading Lemmings.
The current incarnation was formed in January 2004, with Quinn, Andj, & Mr.
Marc. R. Andrew joined in slightly after, while Joe Szadowski became the drummer
in February 2007. They have performed at DC9, and the Grog & Tankard in
Washington, DC; as well as The Zodiac Grill (Gaithersburg), Ri-Ra's Bethesda
location, The Red House in Baltimore, and Bentz Street Bar & Grill in Frederick.
The members of the Treading Lemmings are graduates from Rock and Roll College;
having studied under Profs. Morrissey, Strummer, Shelley, Partridge, Costello
and the bros. Ramone, amongst others.

Christopher Quinn — Vocals. Throughout his youth, Christopher played the drums in a succession of bands including classic rock, ‘50s revival (Stevie Stud and the Stilettos) and heavy metal (Burma Curse). In 1982, he was invited to front the Gaithersburg-based heavy metal band, The Steel Hand. His next gig was as front man for friend Andj Stainer’s all-original project, Wax Poetic, from 1985 through 1986. In 1990, he formed the first version of The Treading Lemmings, recruiting the very best musicians he knew at the time including: Mr. Stainer, Barry Warsaw (The Cravin’ Dogs) Andrew Padula (Darryl Davis, Bobby Parker, Tim Eyermann’s East Coast Offering) and Andy “Sy” Seyler (The Reagan Years). Mr. Quinn also fronts the region’s premier Smiths/Morissey tribute band, Girlfriend in a Coma. |

Andrew “Andj” Stainer — Guitar. Andj began playing classical guitar as a 6-years-old, but as he grew, the lure of rock and roll proved to be too strong to avoid. During the 1980s, he formed the group, Wax Poetic with Treading Lemmings bandmate Christopher Quinn. The group morphed into a female-fronted prog-rock band later to be known as Arc of Ones. The group had the pleasure of opening for bands such as Living Colour and The Godfathers. They recorded a CD with rock mainstay John Palumbo of Crack the Sky. The CD received airplay on college radio before the group broke up in the early 1990s. Before reuniting with The Treading Lemmings, Andj played in the classical guitar duo Guitars of Romance, with his Peabody Conservatory prep-trained wife, Maria Stainer. |

R. Andrew — Rickenbacker Guitar. He joined his first successful band in the early 1980s. Called The Albeenoz, they played in and around Lakeland, Fla. Soon after, Andy toured across the U.S. and Western Europe with The Continental Singers as the rhythm guitarist in the orchestra. In the 1990s, he played with The Accountants and most recently, The Molli Paige Band. Molli Paige is currently together and enjoys much regional success — drawing Alanis Morissette and Melissa Etheridge comparisons. R. Andrew joined The Treading Lemmings soon after relocating to the D.C. area. |

Mr. Marc — Fender Bass. In college he began an all-originals power-pop/rock band called *Batteries Not Included, which played fine establishments including CBGB’s, the Stone Pony and the Waiting Room in Rahway, N.J. When BNI broke up, Mr. Marc turned 180 degrees musically and began playing bass in The Girlettes, a 1960s “girl-group” cover band. He returned to his rocking ways in Corporate America, where he went from full-time bass player and part-time vocalist to full-time bassist/lead vocalist. Job changes marked a return to the D.C. area, and after a couple of failed stops and starts with other bands, he joined the modern rock band Zero Discipline and most recently The Treading Lemmings. |
